As a non-paying subscriber to Timothy Snyder's substack, I can't comment there, but I will here. I don't know who's dissing him for moving to Canada, but I'd like to point out 1) he moved well before T was elected, and 2) even last fall it was uncertain whether Poilievre and the Maple MAGAs would prevail in this year's Canadian elections. We on the left have got to quit tearing down our own.
So many of this administration's abuses of power are so manifestly wrong, either breaking the law or bending it to the same effect, that the lower courts are constantly the scene of legal battles nowadays. We should be grateful that the battles have been mostly successful.
Nor have I. It's abundantly clear that the Project 2025 people were dead serious and planned this blitzkrieg very very carefully. They haven't won yet though and I'm fairly confident almost to the point of certainty that they will be defeated and fairly soon. I think they 1) miscalculated their ability to get deliverables to their base before the midterms 2) did not reckon with conservative voters' discomfort with TOO much change too fast (in other words the Project 2025 planners were more zealous than their base) 3) the disruptive actions and high negatives of Elon Musk, and lastly 4) President Trump's decline and erratic behavior coupled with a distaste that he seemingly was working in cahoots with Putin.
One has to wonder how many experienced weather people would now WANT to work for NOAA. I trust they will also at least hire staff to clean the toilets and take out the trash. Or is that now in the job description?
Will there now be a "gold pass" to build "cabins" aka mini mansions on any Forest Service land? (some are allowed in designated areas already, since 1915, with lots of restrictions)
As noted above, the tRump regime has pulled out the stops to avoid bringing back even ONE illegally deported immigrant, and as I have remarked previously, even to repatriate a single immigrant pursuant to a court order will collapse the entire "third-country" deportation game because *refoulement*.
DHS/DOJ are perfectly willing to push judges to contemplate issuing contempt citations because of interminable delays, misrepresentations, and outright lying, all the while lining up aircraft on multiple runways ready to go at a moment's notice.
It's really difficult to imagine this regime giving in, as "Deportations R Us", and this defines the mission of the DHS/DOJ machinery, the courts be damned.

We're fighting back on hundreds of assaults across the board. I've never seen anything like it.

I hope you’re right. I have also thought that overreach would be what brings them down.
I'm a paid subscriber to
Timothy Snyder's
substack and agree with
Linda Owen. We need to
stop tearing down those
who continue to
promote our democracy
even from other
countries. And it was
clear, from the ignorant
remarks made, many
had no idea Professor
Snyder had been in
Canada even before
Trump was elected.
Have you noticed that the picture of Stephen Miller above kind of looks like he's just noticed the sun is about to rise?
Or is it just me?
